Down East Woodcrafters Inc. was founded in Bath, Maine during the summer of 1993. The primary focus of the company was the contract manufacturing of quality Eastern White Pine shelving, occasional furniture, and craft items. In that first year the company experienced a modest profit. By the end of December 1994 we completed our first full year of production and experienced a 400% sales increase over the previous half-year. During the ensuing seven years the company grew at an average annual compounded rate of over 30%!
Since its inception, the company has concentrated its efforts on quality production, and supply chain efficiencies, while acquiring additional needed capacity.
Specific achieved objectives included:
- Reducing and stabilizing costs for our customers
- Implementing ongoing quality improvement programs
- Building sustained and reliable production lines
- Increasing needed manufacturing facility space from10,000 sq-ft to over 90,000 sq-ft
- Establishing new manufacturing mills in Skowhegan Maine and Madison, Maine.
Having met the above objectives, we have been in a position to successfully expand product offerings to include both softwood and hardwood items:
- A full line of Whit Pine unfinished shelving, peg racks, occasional furniture, freestanding cabinets, craft and novelty items, and accessories
- Cherry and Teak marine table tops, doors and deck panels for world-class yachts (read more about this).
